Reflections on the Sight Matters Awareness Talk

Image
I recently attended an enlightening Sight Matters awareness talk organized by @internationalfinancialgroupltd , and it opened my eyes to the realities of living with vision loss. The focus was on glaucoma, a condition where sight gradually diminishes. Although glaucoma can occur at any age, it's more prevalent in adults over 60. This was quite a daunting realization, especially since my PM topic later that evening was about degenerative diseases. The coincidence made me reflect on how important it is to cherish every moment and seize opportunities before such diseases take hold. Understanding Glaucoma Glaucoma is a silent thief of sight, often unnoticed until significant vision loss has occurred. It mainly affects peripheral vision, leading to "tunnel vision" as the condition progresses. Early detection and treatment are crucial, making regular eye exams essential, especially for older adults. Enhancing Awareness and Empathy One of the most impactful parts of the talk wa

Google UX Design Professional Certificate

Currently I want to improve my design skills so I think about the business side of things. Recently I have been doing the Design Thinking - IBM courses https://www.ibm.com/design/thinking/ and I finished that course by working with Ed Kelly and the Stroke Foundation to help them improve their website but I want to delve in it much better by actually going back to learning and applying.

Animating a 12 tips for Parish Walk

Image
The Parish Walk is one of the most challenging events on the Isle of Man, requiring extensive preparation to complete the full 85 miles or even to participate without injury while enjoying the experience. I had the opportunity to work with IFGL's communications team and Richard Gerrard, a five-time winner of the Parish Walk, to produce a script and coordinate an interview/video shoot. This has challenge me in setting up the camera, lighting, and green screen to ensure a professional production.  To clearly communicate my vision for the final video, I created a storyboard , which helped align the team and Richard Gerrard on the project’s direction. This collaboration resulted in a comprehensive and engaging video that highlights the importance of preparation for the Parish Walk.  Feedback from the video from the Parish Walk committee: Elizabeth:  Absolutely brilliant. Funny but great to watch and valid points covered. Great job Richard!! Jock - That's brilliant. Engaging, well

Problem solving through animation

Image
Our social media assistant recently had a thought of doing a count up of 12 days of christmas. I just thought this would be a great opportunity to practice some animation. I always think that animation connects to problem solving -  How are we going to make these static lines move? How are we going to make these lines appear as if they are all connected to each other? Which part are we going to hide/show? How are we going to do it? Using Adobe illustrator/after effects. I was able to create 12 mini animations to do a 12 days count up. Lesson learned:  We should have done a count down so when we look at our IG feed it goes. 1-12 not 12 to 1.

Lablab.ai Hackathon - KlassNaut

Image
KlassNaut is a cutting-edge AI-powered note generator designed to streamline the note-taking process for teachers. With its easy-to-use interface, teachers can generate notes with text input or audio input, depending on their preferences. Once the input is received, the app sends the request to a Flask server that distributes the task to Celery workers via Redis. The workers utilize GPT3.5, Whisper (when audio is involved), and Stability AI to generate meticulously formatted notes, complete with corresponding images. The generated notes are then saved to PostgreSQL, allowing teachers to easily access them at any time. To ensure that teachers receive timely notifications, KlassNaut sends notifications via a socketio server once the note has been generated. Teachers can then view the note, edit it if needed, and download it in either PDF or Docx format for future reference. The KlassNaut ReactJS client is deployed to Vercel, while the server-side code is deployed on Digital Ocean, provid
